Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE)

An Ultrasound of Your Heart

What Happens at a Transthoracic Echocardiography

Your technician will connect electrodes to your chest that allow us to monitor your heart rate and electrical activity.

Your ultrasound expert will have you move to different positions and inform you of breathing techniques that will allow them to get the best possible images of your heart. They will apply a special gel to your chest while capturing these images.

Soundwaves Anyone

A Transthoracic Echocardiography or TTE uses high frequency sound-waves to create moving image of your heart's chest wall. This is one of the most non-invasive types of procedures.

Why Do I Need an TTE

This type of test is needed to help your doctor identify problems with your heart valves and walls that other tests cannot do. It also shows how well your heart is pumping blood. This is a very useful test if a patient has suffered a stroke, it will help determine the cause.
