Stress Echocardiography

How Well is Your Heart Pumping Blood

What Happens During the Stress Echocardiography

Before you begin the stress test, you will be connected to an ECG machine that will provide data on how your heart is performing during the stress test. You may be asked to perform some breathing tests prior to beginning.

Additionally, an ultrasound will be taken of your heart while you are at rest.

The treadmill speed and elevation will be increased in increments as you perform the test. If you experience any difficulties, the test may be ended.

After you finish exercising, another ultrasound will be taken of your heart immediately.

Images of Your Heart

Similarly to a exercise stress test, you will exercise during the Stress Echocardiography, however when your heart reaches high levels, an image will be taken of your heart.

Why Do I Need a Stress Echocardiography

This allows your Doctor to determine if your heart is getting enough oxygen and blood flow during times when it is needed the most. It goes one step further than a normal exercise stress test and allows Doctors to determine if the muscles of your heart are getting enough oxygen and blood.
